« More than Just Motivation   The Art of Drinking from A Fire Hose »

There may have been many wonderful opportunities knocking on your door, but if procrastinate them you can lose them. There are plenty of famous quotes out there about this issue to motivate people. Yet ironically the majority of people that say they are going to stop procrastinating put it off for another day!

“Oh, how I wish I could overcome procrastination! Somebody please help me stop procrastinating! But not today, I’m busy.”

Law of Attraction – Like Attracts Like

Not all categories of delays turn out to be due to procrastination though so you need to cut yourself some slack. Give the situation an honest evaluation though to determine if it is your fault or something beyond your control. If it is due to yourself then work harder to accomplish your goal of not procrastinating. Reward yourself when you complete projects early or on time. Give yourself small time deadlines for the overall project so you can focus on staying on task and on time for completion. If you don’t always succeed though get up and start working at it again immediately.

For example consider a child who is going to a party. She may have anticipated it all day long. She gets ready early but then realizes there is something on the dress she picked out. She won’t let it spoil her good time though. She has plenty of time to get the dress cleaned up or she will simply choose another one to wear. Another child may have waited until the very last minute to prepare for the party as they are a procrastinator. When they find that their dress has something on it they may end up very upset as they are not going to be late for the party.

Take the example of the child who is excited about a party, but once she has put on the dress that she had kept ready she drops chocolate down the front of her dress. She will not be late as she has to change her dress. This would be an example of a slipped foot. The child who is excited about getting to the party, but was too busy playing till it was time to go and therefore just pulled out a dress from her closet and put it on is an example of the foot planted squarely in the gap between the stepping stones. Beware however of the fear-based procrastination that will inevitably delay and destroy your dreams. It will allow negative energy to replace the positive energy. Beware of the fear of rejection and failure that prevents you from making the requisite cold calls before you make a successful sales call or the fear of drowning that prevents you from taking those swimming classes and learning to enjoy the water.

In order to get past this though you have to be willing to step outside of that form of thinking. You have to be willing to put the procrastination in the past and move forward. You have to see yourself in the role of being successful so that you will have positive energy instead of negative energy. You need to use the Law of Attraction to help inspire and motivate you to reach for what you really want from life.

If you feel guilty when you look at your procrastination tactics, then you are being called to move towards inspired action from your higher self.

Here are some great ways for you to start working on changing your habits that are known as procrastination:

1. Writing – If you write down your goals you will be able to visualize them. Place them on the refrigerator, a bulletin board, your bathroom mirror, or any other place where you are sure to see them all the time.

2. Make it manageable – If you procrastinate because something seems to be too big for you to tackle then you need to break it down into pieces. You can set smaller goals that will be stepping stones to achieving the entire thing. Make sure you celebrate these small successes too as they will certainly help you to create even more positive energy. Each of the smaller goals that you achieve will help you build confidence in your ability to control what does take place in your life.

3.Just get started Fill yourself with positive energy to achieve the first stepping stone and get started straight away with the simplest and smallest of first steps. When you are procrastinating – simply ask yourself what’s the first task? Take action on the smallest incremental item on that task. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you will be inspired.

4. Dangle a carrot – Motivate yourself by having a carrot out there. When you achieve pieces of our goal you can give yourself that reward. It can be something very small and even something that doesn’t cost anything. It needs to be a reward you will really look forward to getting though. When you lack motivation you can turn to this to keep going.

5. Forgive yourself and you will be happier. If you make mistakes then accept responsibility for that. Instead of allowing negative energy to take over while you are kicking yourself in the butt for it, learn from it and move on. Stay positive and take a close look at your goals again. You definitely need to be able to stop procrastinating so that the Law of Attraction can work for you.
