Time Management Techniques For Real People

by Jason Tickbourne

When you are busily rushing through life with a thousand things to do you may not consider what is the most important thing in your life. The most valuable commodity you will ever possess is your time. Nothing else comes close and you cannot put a value on time. The richest man in the graveyard would give everything in exchange for the time you have.

Without the time to appreciate and enjoy the things we have they lose their value. You cannot take monetary wealth with you when your time runs out. It matters not at all whether you are the richest or the poorest man on earth. When time runs out it is game over.

Time is the most important thing we can ever have. Without it we have nothing yet we all waste it as if it were dirt. You may watch a silly program on TV and while you watch it you may enjoy it but afterwards. Do you think it was a good use of such a limited resource as time?

The benefits of time are so obvious that we hardly give it a thought. Time enables you to enjoy spending time with your family and is swallowed up in large amounts by having to work to feed your family and that is a wonderful thing to be able to do but do you want to spend large portions of your limited time to buy a new TV or get the latest gadget?

Most decisions in life are a compromise. We have to make a judgement between alternatives and we forget about the time things take. If you were given a choice between having the latest gadget but losing 3 days of your life which would you choose? The offer is never made in such a way but if you have to spend three days working to get that gadget then that is effectively what you are doing. Giving up time for a gadget.

Your life is ticking away. None of us knows how much time we have left. It could be many years or it could be just minutes. We simply don’t know but whatever amount of time we have available we owe it to ourselves to use it wisely. Using time management techniques in our personal lives can help just as management of time is valuable to business.

Managing your time is so useful a skill that it can make the difference between you leading a happy contented life and one where you never have time to yourself and you feel pushed from pillar to post as you rush around in circles never getting things done.

Most people have only ever thought of learning time management for business purposes but in reality it applies to life in general. The better and more satisfying use we make of our time the happier we will be. It will probably make us more successful too with all the benefits that can bring.
