Procrastination – How To Become More Productive Working From Home
Posted by Christopher Stigson at Apr 23rd, 2008 in Self Help
If you work at home you know it’s simple to get distracted and accidentally procrastinate and therefore lose tons of money from un-productivity. We don’t want to lose our valuable time when we work from home, so here are a couple of solid tips for increasing your productivity and stop procrastinating when you are a home worker.
Begin your day early in the morning
If you have a family and you are working from home, this idea is a must for you to follow. Soon you would realize that getting just an hour or two earlier than others helps you to effectively manage several tasks. One big advantage with this idea is that you would be able to work without any interruption from telephone calls or your family members. You are also able to think clearly because you are starting your day fresh after a good night’s rest. Clarity leads to organization and this is the key to productivity. Get yourself organized
If you don’t want to mess up, get a daily and weekly planner. With this planner it’s virtually impossible to miss anything important such as an interview or dentist appointment. And since you are busy, these things may easily be forgotten.
Prepare a daily checklist
The normal human beings’ mind doesn’t have the mind capacity to remember all the task that need to be done everyday for years. Instead get a daily checklist where you simple have the days activites written down in advance and cross them off as you complete them. You don’t want to waste precious energy on “trying to remember what needs to be done”, instead you need to be “doing it”! A checklist is also a great way to accomplish several tasks in a day.
Self-Motivate yourself
If you haven’t read many books on self-motivation, do so now. There are thousands of them. You need to keep motivated or you’ll never get things done so in order to do this you can have a slogan, a picture of your final goal, a check, or a cartoon of success to remind yourself to keep moving.
Make use of Office Automations
This is Internet age. Automation is a must in these days. You could use many brilliant ways to use the technology available to help you do your work with ease, speed and efficiency. Automation would replace many hours of your hard work, time and energy. If you are not already familiar with computers or Internet usage, you could enroll yourself in a training class. Learn to use the high speed Internet, email, chat facilities. You might be able to find useful software on the Internet to automate your everyday tasks. Take frequent but short breaks
Go check your e-mail, read a magazine, relax, take a sandwich, go to the bathroom or anything else you can do every 2 hours. Don’t over-work, becuase it’s easier to work in 2 hour blocks, but remember… Don’t take too long breaks as they tend to put you off-track and make you do other things. (your “happy emotion” comes into play)
Use these simply, but effective tips to get more done from home. Now you can’t complain about not having any time to do things. People around you will start to ask where all this sudden productivity came from, since they knew you as a procrastinator before!
