7 No-fail Steps To Quit Smoking Going Cold Turkey

by Welldec

Those who choose to go Cold Turkey and break the smoking habit quickly, rather than rely on drugs to help them quit, have the advantage of knowing that they will soon be enjoying the satisfaction of quitting and the sense of wellbeing, good health and financial benefits of being a non-smoker.

As a ‘20 or more’ a day smoker in the 70’s, deciding to give up smoking was not easy. Most of my friends smoked then and there were no restrictions on where you could smoke. Smoking was accepted very readily just about everywhere you went. It made it very difficult to break the habit when so many around you, wherever you went, were smoking.

I reckon 80% of my friends smoked and you could smoke to your heart’s content in pubs, clubs, offices, cars, buses, ‘planes, restaurants – you name it. Temptation was everywhere you went, and especially noticeable when you were trying to break the habit.

Consequently the failure rate was very high. It was too easy to accept the offered smoke at the club or restaurant after dinner, and once you relaxed your resolve to quit, you were back to square one.

As the harmful effects of smoking became more recognized in the 70’s, and sensible people realized the harm they were doing to their health, more and more smokers decided to quit the habit. ‘Cold turkey’ was the only way to go in those days and many heavy smokers broke the habit.

It must surely be easier to quit now when smokers are in the minority and smoking is banned in so many of the old places where smoking was most popular.

Here are my 7 ‘No Fail Steps’ to Quit Smoking.

1. The first step ‘to make up you mind’ is vital.

2. Think about your reasons for quitting – health, cost, environment issues etc.

3. You must know clearly why you want to quit – set a goal.

4. Visualize the benefits – being fitter, being able to taste your food, being able to smell again, and having more money in your pocket.

5. Adopt the attitude of a Non-smoker; I DO NOT SMOKE!!

6. Promise yourself that you will never light up another cigarette.

7. Once you make up your mind, once you are committed, the quicker you do it the better.

Just go for it!! You Can Do It!
